Marie Laveau
Marie Laveau was a practitioner of Voodoo, herbalist and midwife who was renowned in New Orleans. Though little is known about her life, it is widely recorded that she had a massive following, and commanded respect as she walked the streets of New Orleans. There is speculation that her magic mixed Catholic and African spiritual traditions. Most of her followers and network she assembled while working as a hairdresser. Laveau was also known as a female religious leader and a community activist.
